Announcement

The e-pawn emperor's next e4-e5 'monthly update' will be posted at www.chesspublishing.com by the end of February 2002, and in the meantime he will, as always, reply personally to as many e-mail messages as possible which come to MrMo@ChessPublishing.com. Right now, though, on our Internet site there's a tasty new collection of fresh games with some sneaky embedded puzzles waiting to bring you endless hours of enjoyment in a juicy January update.

New Highlights

Tons of fresh mouth-watering goodies await us, including a king-size quintet of wins from the glittering career of GM Vlastimil Hort, who celebrated his 58th birthday on January 12. Three of his featured games (namely G13.94, G13.95 and G13.96) involve the Ruy Lopez, which also appears in the clashes Kobalija-Dervishi (G13.97: a quick White victory) and Kovac-Meszaros (G13.93, where Black hits back fast!).

Also on the menu is the Italian Game in Wehmeier-Campora (G12.34); the ever-exciting King's Gambit claiming another victim in Kleinschroth-Kjaer (G4.45); Philidor's Defence filling in the opposition in Rabinovich versus Ilyin-Zhenevsky (G6.15); a scorching of the Scotch in Prandstetter-Hort (G9.24); and in Hort-Quast (G11.19) we have the fascinating 4 a3!? Gunsberg Variation of the Four Knights to satisfy you all (k)night!! Have fun.

Very Best Wishes,
Yours Sincerely,
Paul Motwani.
