November '99 Update

As well as the preliminary launch material, each month you'll be provided with brand new, up-to-date material on the Dragons.

Hi there everyone! I'm sorry if this month's update seems a little late, but I can assure you that it was worth the wait. This month you will see games posted here that you probably won't see anywhere else and I mean the games, not just the annotations.

I was pleased to receive plenty of mail and although I must remind you that I can't reply to people personally, I will try to answer interesting questions and take good suggestions on board the site. This time around I am proud to say that I have covered every single e-mail. A few people have commented that they have my Dragon video and book and wonder whether they will benefit from subscribing to this site. You will find more comments on "Winning with the Dragon 2" in the Grab Bag, but of course the point is that here you are provided with up to date news on what is happening in the Black and White sides of topical Dragon variations.

Additionally you have the chance to throw any ideas into the melting pot and I may look at them and share them with the rest of the World. Mmm perhaps you might not want to bother!
I have just added to the Reviews page with a look at the recently published "Easy Guide To The Dragon" and no doubt you will appreciate my unbiased(?!) thoughts on the work. I would welcome any of your comments on my comments as well as other reader ideas.

Annotated Games

On the games front, what with "Generosity" being my middle name(!), after popular demand I have looked at the previously uncovered 7 Qd2?! in the Accelerated Dragon along with the typically tedious Gurgenidze System endgame.
In the Yugoslav Attack 9 Bc4 and ...Qa5 variation, I have focused on the h4 and g4 (without Kb1) line by providing full annotations to the extremely unfortunate(!) Nunn-Ward 4NCL encounter and giving a very recent intriguing game from the World Youth.
Not surprisingly 9 0-0-0 remains popular and in the 9...Bd7 department I provide a well prepared game from the World U-18 Championships and resurrect the McShane - Duncan thriller in order to put it to bed again with comments. You will see Fritz unceremoniously torn to shreds in the 9...Nxd4 10 Bxd4 Be6 11 Kb1 system and on a quieter note, I attempt to answer an interesting query in the 6 Bc4 line.

The Advantages Of (Someone Elses!) Home Prep: Minimum effort is required here as Black virtually wins a whole game through (well lets not beat about the bush!) my home analysis.

The Blitz Of Fritz!: Okay so confession time. It wasn't on it's highest level and it wasn't THE (Grandmaster) Rogers. Neverless Fritz gets his butt kicked by a pupil of mine (only with a little help from me!) in a critical 9 0-0-0 variation.

The Dragon Downside: When things are going well, there is nothing like a good Dragon win. However when you haven't done your homework properly and you lose in a pet variation, tears may flow! A ...Qa5 line put to the sword.

Sherlock Holmes Is On The Case!: A favourite line of Watson's, but he's nowhere to be seen here. Some questions answered, but others left hanging.

Angling For A Transposition: I've seen many a club player attempt a Yugoslav Attack formation against almost anything that moves! In the Accelerated variation Black has the chance to punish such a policy.

In A Bind!: Is there a solution to breaking down the Maroczy? Well if there is, this isn't it. Another run of the mill game for White but with one or two glimmers of Black hope.
