Whats Hot?

3 b3 and win! [B20]

In the forum there was discussion in the anti-Sicilian section on what to play after 1 e5 c5 2 Nf3 e6, and Glenn Snow from Franklin, USA suggested 3 b3:

I have taken a closer look at the line and start with the inspiring game Fogarasi-Medvegy.

White will be even keener after observing Negulescu-Waitzkin, where the person who inspired the movie 'Searching for Bobby Fischer' comes a cropper after 28 moves in a tough battle.

Ivanov-Khmelnitsky is another triumph for White in spectacular fashion.

Star game of the month

The star game of the month is Fantin-Paragua, in which Black meets the C3 Sicilian with 2...b6:

equalises in the opening and wins after 20 moves.

Opening Survey

1 e4 c5 2 c3 Nf6 3 e5 Nd5 4 d4 cxd4 and now 5 Qxd4 [B22]

The new world under 18 champion is already a top grandmaster so it might a good idea to see how he wins with White in the game Mamedyarov-Shanava.

I watched the encounter Yong-Coatup when it was being played and have to report that careless play by White in the main line can cause you to lose in just 19 moves!

In Rogers-Canfell the Australian grandmaster starts with a space advantage and steadily increases his influence over the board.

Leite-Galego is a chance for a lower rated player to shine against a grandmaster. The only snag is that there is no fairytale end because Black wins after 24 moves!

I welcome e-mails and games from subscribers, and you can always write on the Anti-Sicilians Forum.
