Chameleon 2 Nc3, 3 Nge2 [B23]

Regular reader Mike Ridge now resides in Edinburgh in Scotland but when not working at the city university his biggest worry is the Sicilian Chameleon! "The idea of the Chameleon is playing 1 e4, 2 Nc3, 3 Nge2 and then deciding whether to play an open or closed Sicilian based on Black's set-up".

It is certainly an interesting idea but I think the critical line is when Black stops all the fun with 3...e5 to rule out the option of d2-d4 limiting White's options.

Lastin-Sherbakov is a heavyweight encounter where White embarks on a king-hunt.

In a model example an American grandmaster wins in only 18 moves. Kudrin-Trammell sees White in sparkling form and a fine demonstration of how to attack.

Naiditsch-Baramidze is another example of White planting a knight on the vacant d5 square.

A relatively unusual plan of action is explored in the game Kritz-Froehlich but it seems to work to White's advantage.
