What's Hot- March 2003

Grand Prix Attack [B21]

Patrick McCartney and Doug Schwetke from the USA and Paul Bentley from England recently asked some interesting questions about the Grand Prix Attack.

I will try to cover some of the points mentioned in the forthcoming months and will start by looking at 2 f4 d5 3 exd5 and now the natural 3...Qxd5.

Orel-Kovac shows how White can benefit by chasing the black queen around the board.

In the game Sveshnikov-Ramesh, White concentrates on developing his pieces but a swift attack results in a victory after 18 moves.

Berg-Astengo is a recent example, which shows that 3...Qxd5 is good news for White.

Novelty of the month

The novelty of the month is revealed in the game Pavasovic-Fauland, where White plays a rare move in the 2...d6 variation and his strong opponent quickly goes horribly wrong.
