The name "Matt" might well make chessplayers think of another very significant word: "mate"!
That’s White’s clear goal in game G4.5, where Matt Guthrie charges to an incredible 17-move win playing the King’s Gambit against a F.I.D.E. Master rated 2410.
Matt seems fearlessly willing to sacrifice all but his own king as his pieces rush to attack the opponent’s trembling monarch. Amusingly, the first 19 letters out of the 38 in "a Matt Guthrie sacking, attacking, rush-it game" are exactly the same as the final 19 letters, except for the order!
I told Matt by e-mail that one of his games is being published on this site, however, I kept the Hero of the Month "award" as a total surprise for Matt! Thank you Matt for both the game and the photo!
