Sorry for the delay with this update, I'll do the next one soon.
This update covers recent developments in various Slav Openings - some novelties are fairly interesting and important for theory. Black's only victory came thanks to Ray Robson's discovery in the Slav Gambit, which put pressure on his experienced opponent. In other openings, especially in the Chebanenko and the Anti-Meran, Black was much less successful... See you next month!

Chebanenko System [D15]

Nyback - Dautov: The closed center allowed White to advance pawns on both flanks and eventually break through on the K-side:

His chances always looked quite promising but actually Black could have offered much tougher resistance.

Carlsen - Wang Yue: White did not achieve much in the opening but Black spoiled a good position by a series of inaccuracies.

Eljanov - Sokolov, I: Here Pavel Eljanov just smashed one of the main Chebanenko experts. It seems that Black is recently facing problems in this line with 7. Ne5:

Main Slav [D17]

Topalov - Wang Yue: Veselin Topalov rather easily converted a small advantage in the ending which his opponent already held before. A series of energetic moves allowed White to control some important squares and lines and break into Black's camp.

Marshall Gambit [D31]

Christiansen - Robson: Rising American star Ray Robson came up with an interesting novelty, 14...Qxc4, and crushed a strong and experienced rival:

Analysis would still prove White's superiority but it was really difficult to find the right way over the board...

Botvinnik Variation [D44]

Krush - Becerra Rivero: Julio Becerra came up with an interesting novelty on move 25 but events soon turned out in his opponent's favour. Irina Krush cleverly exploited Black's inaccuracies and deservedly got a full point.

Anti-Meran Variation [D46]

Akobian - Becerra Rivero: Varuzhan Akobian discovered that a move which was supposed to be a mistake, 15. Rad1, is actually an interesting novelty:

With a series of energetic moves he maintained the better chances and then showed good technique exploiting his opponent's inaccuracies.

Koneru - Perez Candelario: Koneru Humpy cleverly used all her trumps, not being bothered about her opponent's Q-side attempts, and finished the game with a series of nice tactical shots.
