Queen's Gambit Accepted 3.e4 e5 [D20]

Aronian - Stevic: Levon Aronian came up with a relatively rare approach here, which seems more promising than the approved one:

Moreover, it turns out Black faces a much more serious task than it might seem to be! In the game White easily crushed his opponent - Black has certainly got some homework to do...

Queen's Gambit Declined 5. Bf4 [D37]

Jakovenko - Ghaem Maghami: A rare continuation, 6.Rc1, at the beginning of a well-developed line surprised Black:

and quickly led him to a disaster.

Ragozin System [D38]

Delchev - Palac: An interesting line, in which White sacrifices an exchange for the better pawn structure and stronger minor pieces, has recently gained some popularity:

Here Black tried to disturb his opponent's centralised king but still found himself under some pressure.

Aronian - Kramnik Vladimir Kramnik came up with a good novelty and quickly got an almost decisive initiative with black. However, a series of unforced errors eventually led him to disaster.

Nakamura - Grischuk: Hikaru Nakamura outplayed Alexander Grischuk in a line which has recently gained in popularity. White's clever attacking plan on the K-side provoked a desperate piece sacrifice, which turned out to be insufficient.

Vienna Variation [D39]

Kazhgaleyev - Kulaots: Murtas Kazhgaleyev came up with a fresh idea in this topical line, 15.Qf3!?:

and quickly achieved a tangible advantage. Black has to do some homework as White's approach might be promising...

Anti-Meran Variation [D46]

Morozevich - Navara: Alexander Morozevich has proved White's superiority in this deep line which has recently received some tested:

David Navara introduced a small innovation but it turned out to be dubious and White's initiative in the ending quickly became threatening.

Meran Variation [D49]

Morozevich - Caruana: Here Alexander checked his opponent's preparation in a rare line. In order to solve the problems Fabiano Caruana had to introduce a strong novelty and he not only did so but also followed it with a series of precise moves, after which Black was at least not worse.

Lasker Defence [D57]

Topalov - Anand: In their first encounter since the decisive 12th game of the World Title match in 2010 Veselin Topalov tried another approach against the Lasker Defence but the outcome was again painful for him. Vishy Anand came up with a rare but interesting idea, 12...Be6!?:

he quickly grabbed the initiative and gave his opponent no respite...
