Slow Slav 6...Be4 [D12]

Yevseev - Baghdasaryan: Vahe Baghdasaryan came up with a series of sacrifices, improving over one of his previous games:

White eventually mixed things up in a messy position, but objectively Black's approach is probably insufficient.

Chebanenko System 6.b3 [D15]

Mamedyarov - Dominguez Perez: Lenier Dominguez came up with a very strong and unexpected approach, 12...e6!:

and obtained very good play in a line in which he recently faced some problems.

Queen's Gambit Accepted 3.e4 e5 [D20]

Jakovenko - Rublevsky: Sergey Rublevsky experienced serious problems in his pet line, though Dmitry Jakovenko missed some promising options and let his opponent escape. It looks like White's fresh approach secures a small but stable advantage.

Ragozin System 6...h6 [D38]

Moiseenko - Efimenko: Alexander Moiseenko came up with a novelty in one of his pet variations:

and gained a tangible advantage thanks to his opponent's inaccuracies. Yet Black seems to be able to hold on with precise defence.

Ragozin System 8.Be2 [D38]

Shimanov - Wei: An important theoretical dispute in a recently popular line. Black reacted in the most principled way but White's trumps still turned out to be higher. It seems that Black has to work out his defence more precisely or choose some other way earlier on...

Laznicka - Alekseev: Victor Laznicka came up with a slight innovation on move 18 and maintained some pressure throughout, though it was insufficient to pose serious problems.

Anti-Meran [D46]

Aronian - Anand: Vishy Anand crushed Levon Aronian thanks to a wonderful opening idea and a series of fantastic blows, which were strongly reminiscent of the well-known game Rotlewi - Rubinstein, Lodz 1907, but this time a 2800+ player was defending the White side!

Like its predecessor, this epic Anand victory will certainly become one of the most celebrated in the history of chess...
